Staniel Cay Moorings

A boat is floating near a buoy in the turquoise waters of Staniel Cay.

SCYC now operates 21 new moorings in close proximity to our marina.

The Staniel Cay Yacht Club offers Mooring Balls for daily/nightly rental. They are first come, first served.

Terms: Taking one of these Staniel Cay mooring balls requires acceptance of all risk.  Neither SCYC nor any person associated with SCYC is responsible for any damage to vessel or loss that may occur while picking up the mooring, departing the mooring or while attached to the mooring.

If a mooring is damaged by a vessel while arriving or departing the mooring, or due to improper securing of the vessel to the mooring, the boat owner/captain agrees to pay the replacement cost of the items damaged.

Mooring Installation

March 2021 by Pioneer Moorings.  Pioneer Moorings installed many of the moorings in the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park.  The SCYC mooring field installation was a collaborative effort by Pioneer, The Exuma Land and Sea Park, and the Staniel Cay Yacht Club.

Type: Helix anchor.

Bottom: Sand/grass

Depth of placement: 15 to 18 feet boring into substrate

Water Depth:  Varies (vessel owner/captain is responsible for checking water depth and swing/scope).  Water depth at each mooring will vary as wind or tide causes a vessel to swing in one or another direction.  It is suggested that each vessel determine water depth all around the mooring and understand their positioning as relates to water depth.

Holding Capacity: Each mooring in this field has slightly different holding.  Pressures at boring range between 500 and 800 psi on the insertion.  SCYC does not guarantee any specific size or weight of boat that can tie up to a mooring.  Vessel captain is solely responsible for this decision.  However, some estimates of holding capacity for various vessel sizes and wind conditions are referenced in the table below along with exact GPS coordinates. Mooring maintenance: All moorings are inspected once per quarter.  This inspection is visual and includes all components of the mooring system.  However, It is always recommended that the vessel captain or crew inspect any mooring prior to tying up, as damage or degradation may occur between inspections.
